History and Background

  • QATCMA - The short form of our association with the full name of “British Columbia Qualified Acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association”. It was registered under the Society Act with British Columbia government at September 13, 2000.
  • At January 16, 2000, Tom Kong, President of Canadian Acupuncturists and TCM Alliance of BC called a general meeting at its office, Richmond, for all registered Acupuncturists and resolved that to form a new association was necessary to associate with other associations and registered members.
  • April 11, 2000 Tom Kong, Chair of the interim committee of QATCMA, with his members Sunny Lee, Joe Wong, Joseph Wu and Tahmineh Nikookar etc., put forth a proposal of the association and called another general meeting for the approval of the bylaws and constitution. A formal interim Board of Directors was formed: Chair was Tom Kong, Vice Chair was Sunny Lee, Directors: Tahmineh Nikookar, B.K. Singh, Liping Cai, Mariane Cheng,Ting Ting Jiang, Soung Wook Jun, Wenpei Li, Shunfu Mai, Sky Willow, Joe Wong, Joseph Wu, Guo Guang Zheng.
  • January 28, 2001 at the Annual General Meeting of Canadian Acupuncturists and TCM Alliance, a resolution of majority votes from the floor that agreed to merge of its Alliance to QATCMA.
  • March 11, 2001, the first Annual General Meeting of QATCMA was held and its Board of Directors as: Tom Kong was the President, Sunny Lee was the 1st Vice President, and the Directors were Li Ping Cai, Wanda Stephen, John Young, Wenpei Li, Ivy Pang, Sun Kyung Lim, Sky Willow, Philippe Souvestre and William Hardman.
  • Our Board had been restructured after President Tom Kong’s resignation at June 12, 2001. Sunny Lee was the President, William Hardman was the 1st Vice President and John Young was the 2nd Vice President, and Directors were Li Ping Cai, Wenpei Li, Wanda Stephen, Ivy Pang, Sun Kyung Lim, Sky Willow, Philippe Souvestre, and Tom Kong.
  • The Present Board is also restructured from the last after the resignation of the 1st Vice President William Hardman after the 2nd Annual General Meeting at March 3, 2002. Sunny Lee is the President, John Young is the 1st Vice President and Philippe Souvestre is the 2nd Vice President, and Directors are Li Ping Cai, Wenpei Li, Wanda Stephen, Ivy Pang, Sun Kyung Lim, Sky Willow, Tom Kong and John Lee.
